Volunteers from the Church of Scientology sponsored Truth About Drugs initiative campaigned on the beaches of Tuscany to encourage youth to avoid drugs.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, August 15, 2021 / – “Drugs do not go on vacation,” warn the volunteers of the Tuscan section of Foundation for a Drug Free World. Even on vacation, drug addicts need to find sources of the substance to avoid withdrawal, which is why drug dealers turn to popular Tuscan resorts in the summer.

But dealers are also always on the lookout for new customers. In fact, a common thread running through the stories told by former drug addicts in the Foundation’s documentary “Truth About Drugs — Real People, Real Stories” is that “dealers will say anything to get you to experiment with a drug.” .

Knowing this, Drug-Free World volunteers are mobilizing to fight drug addiction through information. In coordination with an Italian federation of seaside companies, they visited 14 popular Mediterranean beaches between Tirrenia and Marina di Pisa, distributing thousands of brochures on the most commonly used drugs – from party drugs like ecstasy to l heroin, pain relievers, cocaine … even alcohol.

Resort officials greeted the volunteers and offered to display their booklets at reception desks and wherever patrons congregate, including their bars. Volunteers found resort staff eager to be part of the solution by making this information available to their clients.

Then, the volunteers collaborated with a camping association and organized the visit of the main campsites along the coast. Again, managers set up displays of their booklets where people were most likely to see them.

The brochures contain facts about the short and long term effects of these drugs, the reasons why most addicts start using them, the risks, including legal ones, and the impact of drug addiction on their lives, their lives. personality, relationships and families.

“We do this because when a young person is made aware of the dangers of drugs, he can form his own opinion on this important topic,” said one of the volunteers. “They can think for themselves and choose to avoid places where drugs are sold, consumed and alcohol abused.”

The volunteers plan to continue visiting popular seaside resorts throughout August, when most Italians take their vacation.
