California has handed out basketball tickets, vacation packages and even millions of dollars in cash to get people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Now, a community organization in Long Beach is offering free pre-rolled joints to the first 150 people to get vaccinated next weekend.
The Long Beach Forward nonprofit has partnered with the Long Beach Collective Association – which advocates for safe and legal access to cannabis – to offer incentives to people 21 and older.
They call the clinic “Joints for Jabs LBC,” and the goal is to close the gap for zip codes with lower vaccination rates.
Long Beach Forward executive director James Suazo said the event will also allow people to safely congregate after a long year of social distancing.
“It’s definitely going to be hot and we want people to be able to connect with each other, especially after this year of staying more secure at home,” Suazo said. “For Long Beach – it’s part of our culture – one of the best ways to do that is to have a joint.”
The event will take place next Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Houghton Park in Long Beach. And one thing to note: participants will not have a seal on site. Instead, they will receive a token to redeem at a local dispensary.
