The Canadian government said on Wednesday that federal employees who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 will be placed on administrative leave without pay, according to a Reuters report.
The policy does not apply to those who have an exemption.
Civil servants are due to be vaccinated by October 29 or face unpaid administrative leave, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said, according to Global News.
“To be clear, the policy has been in effect since Oct. 29, if you want to work for the Government of Canada, which means the people of Canada, you have to be fully immunized,” Freeland said, according to the outlet.

Canadians 12 years of age or older who wish to travel by train, plane or cruise ship must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, according to Global News. This measure will go into effect by October 30, and those in the middle of their vaccination schedule will be allowed to test negative to get through the transition period, which ends on November 30.
“To travel, you have to be vaccinated,” Trudeau said in an interview with reporters in Ottawa, according to Bloomberg. “When it comes to avoiding blockages for everyone, this is not the time for half measures.”
In August, the Canadian government announced that all commercial airline passengers will need to be vaccinated in order to fly. The Canadian government also requires that non-Canadians be vaccinated to enter the country.

The Biden administration announced in September that it would ease restrictions on international visitors who are fully vaccinated in November. All foreign visitors must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and show proof of vaccination when boarding a plane to the United States
The Pentagon also recently announced that all civilian workers must be vaccinated by November 22.
According to the Canadian government’s Department of Health, approximately 81 percent of eligible Canadians are fully immunized. In contrast, about 66% of eligible Americans are fully immunized, according to the CDC.
